  5. Fluorescein is a water soluble 
  6. stain that will stain the tear 
  7. film and any disruption of the 
  8. ocular surface.  It will show any 
  9. breaks in the epithelium and be 
  10. absorbed by cells which have 
  11. damaged membranes.  Using just 
  12. the normal white light of the 
  13. slit lamp will show areas of 
  14. staining.
